Who We Are

Springfield Promise Neighborhood (SPN or Promise) works with residents in the southeast quadrant of Springfield, which includes two elementary schools and two middle schools. This area is a highly mobile and under-resourced community lacking playgrounds, day care facilities, and the kind of enrichment and civic associations that mark a vibrant place to live and raise a family.

The premise of Springfield Promise Neighborhood’s place-based and asset-based work is that the long-term goal of poverty alleviation depends upon the academic and social success of children such as those who attend Springfield City Schools and the communities who reside in the south side of Springfield, Ohio.  Academic and social growth, in turn, requires that children benefit in their development, particularly in their earliest years, from the interactive support of thriving schools and thriving communities, with committed parents and neighbors creating a culture of aspiration and connectedness.

What We Do

The Springfield Promise Neighborhood responds to generational poverty by serving children and their families.  We help students on the south side of Springfield, Ohio develop their promise by providing or coordinating innovative programming in early childhood education, and after school and summer opportunities which include enrichment, social skills, and career development.  We help families and residents in south side neighborhoods organize and create effective approaches to community safety, affordable and accessible housing, and youth development through ongoing events, activities and neighborhood engagement. We own a community garden on Linden Ave. which provides over 1,000 pounds of fresh produce directly to neighbors. We also participate in a number of community coalitions and task forces, all trying to increase collaboration and communication among service agencies to increase
