Inclement Weather Plan: 1. Fog a. Dense fog may cause delays to the mobile as it increases travel time to mobile locations. b. Freezing fog may cause cancellation of the mobile to keep clients from driving in unsafe conditions. 2. Heat a. See the chart for what to expect at mobiles: Heat Index Risk Level Protective Measures Less than 91° F Lower Use truck awnings to provide shade. 91° to 103° F Moderate Use truck awnings to provide shade. Greater than 103° F High Mobile will be cancelled. 3. Rain a. It is very unlikely that the mobile will be cancelled due to rain, however rain may delay the mobile as it increases travel time to mobile locations. If the rain storm is likely to pass within a reasonable amount of time, this may also cause delay as we wait out the rain. b. In extreme cases where flooding becomes an issue, the Mobile Coordinator will cancel the mobile to keep clients from travelling on unsafe roads. 4. Thunderstorms & Lightning a. The safest place during a thunderstorm is indoors. If there is a high chance for a severe thunderstorm in the forecast, it’s likely the mobile will be cancelled or delayed. b. If thunder or lightning is heard or spotted during a mobile pantry, everyone should seek shelter immediately indoors or if necessary, in their cars. Product from the mobile pantry will be loaded back onto the truck as quickly as possible and doors should be closed. Tables may be left out. If the truck awnings are out, SHFB staff will put them back in. c. Once in a safe place, wait 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before continuing the mobile pantry. If thunder and lightning continues for more than 30 minutes, the mobile will be cancelled and the truck will return to the warehouse when it is safe to drive. 5. Tornado a. Tornado Watch: This may or may not affect the mobile. The Mobile Coordinator will keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to the mobile. If the weather seems unsafe the mobile will be cancelled. b. Tornado Warning: If there is a tornado warning in the location of the mobile pantry or if a tornado warning makes it unsafe to travel to the mobile pantry location, the mobile will be cancelled. 6. Wind Storm a. High winds can be very unsafe and make operating the mobile pantry very difficult. If there are wind speeds of over 30 mph, it may be necessary to delay or cancel the mobile.
