Who We Are

Founded in 1983, Freshwater Farms of Ohio is family owned and operated by three generations of the Smith family and their experienced staff. Dr. Dave Smith and his father, Dick Smith, an electrical engineer, started the facility at Freshwater Farms and the ongoing process of innovation and hands-on development. Ben Smith, Dr. Dave’s son, brings a lifetime of experience as farm manager and designer for WaterSmith fountains.

What We Do

Freshwater Farms is a vertically integrated hatchery, grow-out, processing, marketing, and retail operation. We are the only producers of trout products in Ohio. Our 19-acre farm is the state’s largest indoor fish hatchery, where we raise up to 100,000 pounds of fish yearly. The fish are raised both indoors and outdoors year round.

Take home the freshest fish in Ohio! Freshwater Farms is the only producer of fresh trout products in the state. Our fish are locally-raised in clean water, away from environmental contaminants, and are fed clean feeds.

Our decades of experience allows us to offer sound advice on every aspect of planning, waterscaping and managing a pond or water garden.
