TAC’s daily mission is to employ, connect, and care for people with disabilities in community settings of their choice. Our 65-year history is the story of the people we serve: their abilities and aspirations, and how TAC provides each of them with opportunities and support to develop and achieve.
Their success is our success.
TAC – The Abilities Connection (also known as TAC Industries, Inc.) is a direct descendant of the original founders of services for individuals with significant disabilities in Clark County, Ohio. Our founding was 65 years ago; through the years, our “cradle to grave” services have included infant stimulation, education, employment and housing.
TAC History -- Our founders were parents of children with significant and lifelong disabilities who sought to make a place for their children in our community. These early activists defied professional advice to place their children in institutions and leave the care them in the care of the state. These motivated parents were creative people able to secure donated space, purchase equipment and classroom supplies with “tax” stamps, publicize their every success, and eventually sell the community on passing the first local tax initiative anywhere in the country to fund a community school for children with disabilities. The needs and requests for services grew so quickly that teachers, aides, principles, drivers and a workshop staff had to be quickly hired, and a formal program of services established.
TAC Today -- TAC remains true to the founders and their principles. Every person has a place in our community and our job is to help them find it and succeed in it. Every person who wants to work has an opportunity to do meaningful work, be productive and earn a paycheck. Every person’s gifts and abilities add color and texture to our community. Our job is to help them identify and develop these gifts and find places where they will be cherished. We don’t deal with our customers, we revere them.
